One of the most memorable hikes I’ve done was the Subway trail in Zion National Park. It had a profound impact on me, and was truly one of the most stunning and awe-inspiring experience. My friend captured a photo of me just as I was leaving the main "Subway" canyon, and that photo was what inspired this printwork. The canyon walls were illuminated with a magical light, and I set out to capture that ethereal glow and surreal atmosphere in this print.
Unlike digital inkjet printing, I created large stencils for each color, shape, and texture layer. Carefully layering each layer and printing them on fineart paper, I built up the colors and values to create the final piece. The end result is rich in texture and subtle color variations that digital printing can’t replicate. I hope it speaks to you in someways.
